Dr. Nancy Shackell is a senior research scientist at Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Nova Scotia, Canada working for Fisheries and Oceans, Canada. Dr. Shackell has used ecological theory to understand patterns in exploited marine systems. She has published on topics including biodiversity, important habitat of commercial species, marine protected areas, trophic balance, impacts of climate change, and Atlantic halibut spatial ecology. Dr. Shackell’s Atlantic halibut spatial ecology research is focused on resolving whether there is sub-stock spatial structure, and if that matters to the stock assessment process.
